SUBJECT: Honoring the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In remembering Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are reminded of the faith he had in the American people to overcome adversity and to stand united.

With an unshakable belief in the inherent strength of democracy, Dr. King was optimistic about the future, writing, “there is within human nature an amazing potential for goodness.’’ Even today, in a world of unprecedented change and uncertainty, there is good reason for optimism. As a company that values the contributions of all people, we overcome daunting challenges and rise to every occasion.

Dr. King’s courage and his determination to confront injustice, often in the face of violent resistance, have inspired millions throughout the world. As we have learned from Dr. King’s words and deeds, a people unified by a common purpose and a commitment to create a just and open society can move mountains.

You demonstrate that spirit every day in the work you do and in the way you volunteer to send care packages to troops deployed overseas, help your neighbors rebuild after natural disasters, mentor students in schools across the country, and walk, run and ride to raise money and awareness in the fight against deadly diseases. Through volunteering, you’re making your communities better places to live. There is no more fitting tribute to Dr. King’s life and work than exercising the rights and responsibilities of citizenship in a free country.

People who cherish liberty and equality, and who do the right thing even when it may be unpopular, are the inheritors of Dr. King’s legacy. No matter where you work, where you’re from, or what you do, in your work and in your lives, you honor Dr. King’s memory today and throughout the year. We are proud of your dedication and commitment to his high ideals, which make Lockheed Martin a great company. Thank you.
